Animal Care Worker (Part-Time, Growth Potential)

We are seeking a dependable, compassionate Animal Care Worker to join our shelter team. This role starts part-time (15–20 hours/week) with the potential to grow into a near full-time position for the right person.

This is not an easy job—but it is meaningful, hands-on, and lifesaving.

Schedule & Availability

  • Shelter is open 365 days a year
  • Shifts include:
    • Morning: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
    • Evening: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Must be available for at least every other weekend
  • Greater availability = stronger consideration

Pay

  • Starts at minimum wage
  • $1 Raise after 90 days
  • Additional $1 raise after 1 year
  • Opportunities for increased hours and responsibility over time (to include working Open Hour Shifts from 2-6pm on M, T, Th & F, and 11-4pm on Sat)

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning and sanitizing of kennels, cages, and common areas
  • Feeding, watering, and monitoring cats and dogs
  • Handling dogs of all sizes, including large, strong dogs & possibly feral cats
  • Basic animal observation and reporting health or behavior concerns
  • Enrichment, comfort, and care for stressed animals
  • Passing medications and giving vaccinations
  • Transporting animals to and from veterinary appointments
  • Supporting adoption operations and general shelter needs

Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • Comfortable handling both cats and dogs
  • Physically able to lift, restrain, and manage large dogs
  • Valid driver’s license (required for animal transport)
  • Comfortable working in:
    • Loud environments
    • Strong odors
    • Emotionally difficult situations
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow protocols

Ideal Candidate

  • Has animal care, shelter, kennel, vet, or farm experience (preferred, not required)
  • Calm under pressure
  • Shows up—consistently
  • Understands this is care work first, cuddles second
